Resources for Veterans For those transitioning from the military or who once served in the armed forces, designated veteran employment counselors are prepared to assist veterans and eligible spouses in finding a new career. Veterans Preference Through Veterans Preference, DLT Career Centers offer priority of service to veterans and eligible spouses of veterans under the Jobs for Veterans Act. Priority of service gives covered individuals preference over non-covered individuals in receiving any Workforce Investment Act employment, training and placement services. This includes providing first access to services when a time element is involved, and giving veterans preferred registration in a limited enrollment situation. Identification Veterans are asked to identify themselves at all points of entry to the DLT Career Center system, including in-person check-in at any career center, online registration on the Back to Work RI virtual career center, or in the EmployRI online job search toolkit. Once identified as veterans, claimants will be referred to a Veterans’ Employment Counselor. Priority of Services Veterans eligible for Priority of Service include those who have served in the active military, naval or air service, and who were discharged or released under conditions other than dishonorable. This includes National Guard and Reserve Personnel. Also eligible are spouses of veterans who have died as a result of a service-connected disability; spouses of veterans who have a total disability resulting from a service-connected disability; and spouses of active duty members of the armed services who, at the time of the spouses’ application for services, have been classified as missing in action, captured, or forcibly detained for more than 90 days. Contact a Representative Specialized services are available through Disabled Veterans Outreach Program Specialists and Local Veterans Employment Representatives. Employment counselors are located in each DLT Career Center and virtual appointments are also available.
