Description
The CIT course is a nationally recognized Community Interpreter Training course developed by Cross-Cultural Communications (CCC) a training and consulting organization which is based in Columbia, Maryland. This intensive 80-hour CIT course fulfills the minimum 40-hour training requirement by the National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters (NBCMI) and the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI), and prepares participants for national certification. The goal of this course is to master the art of community interpreting which includes interpreting in medical, educational, business, and social services settings. Students will hone their ability to listen, understand, and convey the verbal message accurately and completely from source to target language. Participants learn different modes of interpretation, how to manage the flow of communication, and the dynamics of a three-way interview. The course employs heavy participatory training techniques in an active learning environment including role plays, group discussions, and practice in various interpreting settings. The training is divided into 60 hours of in-class training with an additional 20-hour practicum, for a total of 80 hours of training. 6-week course. BCI required.
