Description
The Medical Assistant training is for people who want to work with patients in a clinical setting. Program graduates can expect to begin careers as clinical medical assistants. Students will learn a wide array of skills, including patient triage, patient education, specimen collection, injections, vital signs, ECGs, social determinants of health, and more, to prepare them for success after graduation.
The Medical Assistant training runs for approximately 16 weeks, 30 hours per week (12 weeks of training and 4 weeks in a clinical externship) and employment assistance is included with the program.
Starting in 2025, CCRI's Medical Assistant training program will include preparation for the nationally recognized Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) exam. Though not required in Rhode Island, earning national certification expands job opportunities, enhances professional credibility, and can lead to higher wages. Eligible graduates of CCRI's program may take the exam at no additional cost.
Graduates of CCRI's Medical Assistant program are eligible for 10 prior learning credits that may be applied toward an academic certificate in Medical Insurance Billing & Coding. The completed certificate is stackable toward an Associate's Degree in General Studies.
This program opportunity is organized by the Community College of RI Division of Workforce Partnerships, led by the Community College of Rhode Island.
