The Design Catalyst empowers Rhode Island's design industry, fostering a strong talent pipeline and ensuring a bright future for the field. The Design Catalyst is a comprehensive workforce development program built around three key goals:

The Digital Literacy Training program is open to Rhode Island residents, 18 and older, who are looking to get back into the workforce. This training is 4 weeks long and runs Monday-Friday 9am-3pm via zoom. This training covers basic computer skills, Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), Google Apps, resume writing, and interview preparation.

Program gives students the opportunity to engage in design thinking, prototyping, and fabrication. The shop is equipped with cutting-edge additive and subtractive technologies, and provides students access to hands-on learning.

Dorcas equips participants with the skills they need to succeed, offering English language instruction, digital literacy training, work readiness development, career exploration and planning, and referrals to further education or training – all delivered in a culturally and linguistically appropriate manner.

Newport Community School (NCS) and the Aquidneck Island Adult Learning Center (AIALC) are proud to offer EKG Technician training! This program serves as an introductory pathway to the healthcare field, potentially leading to additional certifications like CNA.

The Emerging Leaders Development Program supports the advancement of high-performing Asian, Black, Hispanic or Latino, Indigenous, and multi-racial professionals into senior leadership roles. This comprehensive 7-month program provides participants with the essential skills, knowledge, and support network to propel their careers forward. The program includes:

Students will learn skills in basic life support, respiratory emergencies, trauma emergencies, vehicle extrication and terrorism awareness as it pertains to EMS. Medication administration, use of AED's and ambulance operations will be covered.

Newport Community School boasts a successful history of collaborating with the Department of Labor and Training (DLT) to offer workforce training and development programs for underserved populations on Aquidneck Island.

This course consists of lectures and hands-on lab sessions to prepare students for work as an EMT/ambulance attendant.
