Description:A program that prepares individuals, under the supervision of physicians and other health care professionals, to draw blood samples from patients using a variety of intrusive procedures. Includes instruction in basic vascular anatomy and physiology, blood physiology, skin puncture techniques, venipuncture, venous specimen collection and handling, safety and sanitation procedures, and applicable standards and regulations. Students receive 200 total hours including 120 hours of externship. Phlebotomy Technicians work in a clinical setting. They are responsible for collection blood samples in order to have them tested by the laboratory personnel. Phlebotomist work under the direct supervision of a laboratory manager and medical lab technologist. Class hours Monday through Friday 9:00am-2:30 pm for 8 weeks or Monday and Wednesday 6:00-9:00pm for 8 weeks.
