Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (Non-Credit)

Description:The Emergency Medical Technician Program is designed for individuals interested in beginning a career in Emergency Medical Services. Through lectures and labs, students will learn patient care in the pre-hospital setting however, individuals interested in a career in the hospital setting will benefit from the introduction to Anatomy and Physiology, cardiac arrest care through healthcare provider CPR, American Heart Association guidelines, bleeding control and trauma care. A must take class for those interested in Paramedicine and/or a degree in Emergency Medical Services. Students will learn Skills in Basic Life Support, Respiratory Emergencies, Trauma Emergencies, vehicle extrication, and a new section on Terrorism awareness as it pertains to EMS. There will also be sections on medication administration, use of Automated External Defibrillators, and ambulance operations. Students will also be required to document 8 hours of observation time in a hospital Emergency Room. This is a 6 Credit course offered in the Fall, Spring, Summer. This program is Pell Grant Eligible.
