Description:The Emergency Medical Technician program is designed for individuals interested in beginning a career in Emergency Medical Services. Through lectures and labs, students will learn patient care in the pre-hospital setting, however, individuals interested in a career in the hospital setting will benefit from the introduction to Anatomy and Physiology, cariac arrest care through healthcare provider CPR, American Heart Association guidelines, bleeding control and trauma care. A required class for those interested in Paramedicine and/or a degree in Emergency Medical Services. Students will learn Skills in Basic Life Support, Respiratory Emergencies, Trauma Emergencies, vehicle extrication, and a new section on Terroism awareness as it pertains to EMS. There will also be sections on medication administration, use of Automated External Defribillators, and ambulance operations. Students will also be required to document 8 hours of observation time in a hospital Emergency Room. Required: EMS 121 EMT Basic - 6 college credits. This program is Pell Grant Eligible.
